South AustraliaOnline sports and race wagering and betting operations are regulated by the Liquor and Gambling Commissioner through CBS under the Authorised Betting Operations Act 2000, and online casino-style gambling remains prohibited under federal law (Interactive Gambling Act 2001). In February 2015, the South Australian government began looking at introducing a point of consumption tax on online gambling. This led to the Betting Operations Tax, effective from 1 July 2017, which imposes a 15% tax on net wagering revenue from South Australian customers and has since become a key source of gambling tax revenue for the state. Online wagering providers serving SA residents must also comply with national measures such as BetStop (the self-exclusion register), pre-verification rules and the federal ban on credit cards for online gambling.
