South Australian Lottery Players are Unluckiest
SOUTH AUSTRALIA – As reported by the Advertiser: "Lottery players are South Australia's unluckiest gamblers, with just a 68 per cent rate of return from their tickets.
"Trackside punters do much better, winning back up to 98 per cent of their outlay. Even pokies give players back 89 per cent of their money.
"An assessment of national gambling figures shows the average rate of return for lotteries, including Lotto, scratchies and Keno, was 68 per cent in 2003-04. Gamblers lost $112 million on lottery products in that period.
"Figures provided by SA Lotteries show that of every $1 spent on lottery games, a minimum of 60.2 cents was returned as cash prizes. The rest went on taxes, GST, agent commissions and operating expenses…"
