French Roulette is a variation of European roulette that is played on a wheel with 37 pockets, including one zero pocket. The differentiating features of French Roulette are a half-back rule, referred to as "la partage" in French, and another feature referred to as "en prison." Under the la partage rule, any even-money bets (e.g., red/black, odd/even or high/low) lost due to the ball landing in the zero pocket return half of the bet amount back to the player. The en prison feature allows players to "imprison" a losing bet that would have fallen under the la partage rule rather than lose half of their bet amount. An "imprisoned" bet stays active for the next spin of the wheel, and if the bet wins on that spin, the bet amount is returned in full to the player without any winnings.
