TanzaniaThe Gaming Control Act and subsequent reforms in 1999–2003 legalized both land-based and online gambling, creating a licensing system for casinos, fixed-odds betting, sports betting, simulated games and lotteries. In 2003, the Gaming Board of Tanzania was formed to oversee all gambling in the nation. Eventually, the licensing of online casinos was permitted. In October 2013, the first online casino licensed by Tanzania, iplay8casino.com, launched. Residents of Tanzania have historically faced restrictions to play at iplay8casino.com, but current rules allow Tanzanian-licensed sites to accept local players subject to strict licensing, server-location, tax and player-protection requirements, while play at foreign sites remains technically legal but outside the GBT’s protection.
