SwitzerlandUnder the Federal Act on Money Games (AMG), which entered into force on 1 January 2019, only existing Swiss-licensed land-based casinos may obtain extensions to offer online casino games, and only Swisslos and Loterie Romande may provide online lotteries and sports betting; foreign operators are barred and instead subject to blocking. In June 2018, a law to regulate online gaming in Switzerland passed by 73% of the country's voters went into effect on 1 January 2019. In January 2019, Switzerland’s new Federal Act on Money Games entered into force and applies to all online real money games. Under the AMG, online gambling is permitted, however the organizer must obtain a Swiss license. Online casino licenses were available only to existing Swiss land-based casino operators for the first six years after the entry into force of the AMG (2019 to 2024). The law also introduced extensive consumer-protection measures (self-exclusion, reality checks, social-concept obligations) and empowered ESBK and Gespa to maintain blacklists and require Swiss ISPs to block access to unlicensed foreign sites; by 2025 those lists covered more than 2,500 domains.
