PokerStars gears up for PCA

28 Nov 2011

LONDON, England -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- It’s just six weeks to go until the ninth annual PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) gets under way at the Atlantis at Paradise Island Resort and Casino in the Bahamas. The upcoming festival, which will feature 41 events in just ten days, making it the biggest live poker festival outside Las Vegas, is scheduled to take place from January 5-14, 2012.

The $10,000 + $300 PCA Main Event is one of the poker calendar’s ‘must-play’ events, and the 2012 tournament looks to be no different. There are already more than 300 players registered to play and over $3 million in the prize pool with more than a month to go.

Last year’s winner, Galen Hall, took home $2.3 million for first place, from a total prize pool of more than $15 million, after more than 1,500 players took part in the tournament.

In welcoming the PCA to the Bahamas again, Fred J. Lounsberry, Chief Executive Officer of the Nassau Paradise Island Promotion Board, said: “PokerStars Caribbean Adventure is an exciting event that offers visitors to Nassau Paradise Island a unique opportunity to experience Vegas-style poker tournaments while also taking advantage of the destination’s beautiful beaches and world-class cuisine. We are thrilled to welcome PCA back in January 2012.”

Super High Roller Event

In addition to the Main Event, poker’s biggest names will once again compete in the $100,000 buy-in Super High Roller Event, which next year is set to be filmed and televised. Last year saw two Team PokerStars Pros go heads-up for the title and huge first prize, as Eugene Katchalov overcame Daniel Negreanu to win $1.5 million.

Players who have already confirmed their attendance in this prestigious event include Negreanu and Katchalov, as well as other Team PokerStars Pros Bertrand ‘ElkY’ Grospellier, Jason Mercier and Jonathan Duhamel, along with businessman Masa Kagawa, Canadian pro Mike ‘Timex’ McDonald and Bryan Colin, a high stakes player who came 20th in the 2011 PCA Main Event.

TV Broadcast and Live Stream

The Main Event, Super High Roller and High Roller tournaments will be filmed to create 14 TV shows, which will be broadcast internationally in 2012. There will also be a live webcast of the PCA Main Event final table on January 13 and the PCA High Roller final table on January 14.

Live and Online Satellites

There are plenty of ways to qualify for the PCA 2012 Main Event, with satellites at a range of different buy-ins and formats to suit everyone. As part of PokerStars’ 10th Anniversary Celebration, there are 100 PCA packages being given away, with freerolls into the weekly finals starting every ten minutes on PokerStars. In addition, the final Mega Path satellites run several times a day across a range of different FPP buy-in levels and the chance to qualify for as little as four Frequent Player Points (FPPs).

There will also be four live PCA Main Event satellites taking place at the Atlantis resort on Paradise Island. The $1,100 buy-in satellites will take place at on January 6-7 (Day 1A) at 17.00 and 19.00, with one rebuy allowed per player.

Global Poker Tours Limited (GPTL) managing director, Jeffrey Haas, said: “Each year the PCA offers the widest range of poker tournament formats, game variants and buy-ins available on the planet. Nowhere else will players find tournaments with buy-ins from $300 to $100,000, or the kind of games provided in the schedule. We want the PCA to be FUN for players both at the tables and when they’re on the beaches, at the nightclubs, or in the restaurants. The PCA is for our players, and their friends and families. We’re privileged and honoured to be welcoming thousands of them back for our ninth annual event.”

For more information on satellites, players can go to Events > PCA > Satellites in the PokerStars client or view the wider schedule at www.pokerstarscaribbeanadventure.com.

PCA Women Live

The ladies-only event runs from January 12-14, and players can win a $3,250 prize package via satellite qualifiers which are running now at PokerStars.com. The package includes buy-in, three nights’ luxury hotel accommodation and $1,000 expenses. Women looking to qualify can find out more details at www.pokerstars.com/poker/promotions/women-live.
