PokerStars deals 40 billionth hand

(PRESS RELEASE) -- celebrated dealing its 40 billionth hand in style this weekend with almost $1 million in F40 promotions and the largest ever Sunday Million tournament, with a guaranteed million dollar first prize.

The special F40 Sunday Million tournament attracted 36,169 entrants and generated a massive prize pool of $7,233,800, making it the fourth biggest online tournament ever (behind the PokerStars WCOOP Main Events in 2007, 2008 and 2009). After more than 13 hours of play, 'RichieRichZH' from Switzerland, claimed first place for a prize of more than $1.1million.

In the days leading up to the Sunday Million, had given away almost a million dollars in prizes as part of its 40 Billionth Hand celebrations. The bonanza began with the $40 buy-in 'Micro Million' tournament on February 14th; over 40,000 players entered, building a prize pool of more than $1.5 million.

As the 40 billionth hand approached, PokerStars marked 400 milestone hands, awarding over $779,000 in eight days including 155 prizes of over $1,000. In total, more than 2,200 players won cash prizes during the celebrations. In addition to the prizes in the milestone hands, PokerStars also rewarded Sit & Go players with over $160,000 in added prize money in the F40 Super Sit & Go's. A further 147,000 PokerStars players entered eight $40K tournaments for a buy-in of just 40 VPPs.

The 40 billionth hand played out on Friday, February 19th on a $2/$4 No Limit Hold'em table. Swedish player 'Senecady' picked up $350 for winning the hand, but the pot was dwarfed by the $24,000 prize he received for being the winner of the 40 billionth hand. Every other player at the table collected a prize based upon the number of VPPs they had collected over the previous 40 hands dealt on the table:
