PokerStars arrange women's tournament at PCA

1 Nov 2010

(PRESS RELEASE) -- Few people could doubt the appeal of the Caribbean beaches, particularly during the cold midwinter in Europe and North America. But for the ever-growing legion of female poker players, the place to be next January will be on the inside of the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas, for the PokerStars Women's Caribbean Adventure.

This $1,100 buy-in event will take place on January 14-15, during the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) festival, which has been a fixture on the poker calendar for the past six years. Women players are invited to contest one of the most prestigious female-only tournaments in the world and attempt to follow in the footsteps of the Team PokerStars Pro Vanessa Rousso, who won the event in January 2010. Rousso earned close to $25,000, the largest share of an $88,270 prize pool, for beating a field of 91 players.

Next January's event will be even bigger and will feature a clutch of celebrity players including some of the leading lights of Team PokerStars Pro: Rousso, Vanessa Selbst, Vicky Coren and Liv Boeree, among others. Rousso will also be hosting an exclusive Boot Camp on the eve of the tournament, offering players the chance to improve their games further by learning from the best.

Female players can already begin qualifying for the event in satellite tournaments on PokerStars. Satellite buy-ins start from as little as $2 or 500 Frequent Player Points (FPPs). Qualifiers' packages include the $1,100 buy-in to the Women's Caribbean Adventure tournament, plus entry to the Boot Camp, beach camp, party and four nights' accommodation and expenses, plus an exclusive goody bag.

All the other attractions at the luxurious Atlantis Resort are also open to qualifiers. There are numerous restaurants, bars, shops and spas spread across the appropriately named Paradise Island. The resort is surrounded by the Caribbean Sea and boasts a sprawling water park, offering the chance to swim with dolphins or plunge down death-defying slides into the lagoons.
