Busy week ahead at PokerStars

7 Feb 2013

(PRESS RELEASE) -- PokerStars.eu weekly round-up – February 7

Sunday Majors
It’s rare to see no deal at the final table of the week’s richest online poker tournament, but when there are one or two big players vying for the title that sometimes happens. In the latest instalment, Matt ‘ch0ppy’ Kay was going for his second Sunday Million win (his first came back in 2007), but he finished third this time for $121,344, while ‘petesgotaces’ from Australia went on to beat ‘gypsymagi820’ from Finland heads-up, to win the first prize of $227,524.92. In total 7,584 players bought in, with 1,080 players sharing the total prize pool of $1,516,800. Read the full report on the PokerStars Blog.

A little earlier in the Sunday Warm-Up, 3,443 players stumped up the $215 buy-in to create a prize pool of $688,600. This time there was a deal at the final table, as the last three agreed a chop. Eventual winner was ‘nurabsal’ from UK, who earned $84,611.17, but runner-up ‘hulinda’ from Russia actually won more money – $94,201.74 – as part of the three-way deal. The PokerStars Blog has the full report.

EPT Deauville
The latest European Poker Tour stop is currently taking place at the Casino Barriere, Deauville, where play in the €5,300 Main Event is well under way. A total of 782 players have bought into the tourney to create a prize pool of €3,753,600 and a first prize of €770,000. Play continues all this week with the final table on Saturday, February 9.

Follow the action all this week with updates on the PokerStars Blog and a live daily PokerStars.tv webcast.

Two more stand-out tournaments also take place this week at the EPT festival, with a €10,000 + €300 PLO Championship which began yesterday, and a €10,000 + €300 High Roller (Single Rebuy) that starts today (Feb 7).

French Poker Series Deauville
As part of the wider EPT Deauville festival, the French Poker Series wrapped up Season 2 with the Grand Final earlier this week. A €1,100 Main Event took place from January 30 to February 2, and saw the record attendance for an FPS event completely smashed as 828 players bought in to create a prize pool of €794,880 and first prize of €165,000, which went to Patrick Braga of Canada. For a report, check out the PokerStars Blog.

EPT London satellites
EPT London is just a month away, so it’s good to know that online satellites to win an £8,300 Main Event package are now running at PokerStars.com. Just head to the lobby and click Events > EPT to find qualifiers starting from just €1.10.

LAPT Chile
In just over a month’s time the LAPT Chile National Poker Championship is aiming to become the biggest and richest poker festival ever held on Chilean soil, with a festival scheduled from March 13-17. LAPT Chile is aiming to break the all-time Main Event record field of 681, which was set in Colombia in Season 4, and surpass the 700-player mark. Since the event was changed to a USD $1,100 buy-in and named the ‘National Poker Championship’, it has attracted 621 runners in 2011 and 672 last year, where local hero Alirio Diaz took first place. This year it’s anticipated that the combined prize pool for all the festival events will break the USD $1 million mark, surpassing any previous prize pools for LAPT or any other live poker event held in the country.

Online satellites to the event are proving popular both online at PokerStars and live at Enjoy’s casinos across the country and there is still time to qualify either live or online. One notable change for LAPT Season 6 Main Events is that there are unlimited re-entries available for the first four levels of play.
