32Red wins trademark victory against William Hill

21 Jan 2011

ENGLAND -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- Online gambling operator 32Red plc said the High Court ruled in its favour today (Jan 21) in the company's trademark dispute with William Hill, owner of the 32Vegas online casino.

32Red said the court ruled that the William Hill's use of '32 Vegas' and '32V' infringed the company's EC registered trademarks, holding they were were sufficiently similar to lead to confusion among consumers.

The court dismissed a counter-claim by William Hill challenging the validity of 32Red's trademark rights in the UK and European Community.

32Red said it will ask the court for an injunction to prevent use of 32Vegas marks in the European Community, repayment of its legal costs and an inquiry to assess the extent of damages or profits arising from the infringement.

It was not yet possible to quanitfy the financial impact of the court result.

CEO Ed Ware said, 'We are naturally delighted that the High Court has upheld our claims. This judgment firmly establishes our intellectual property rights and should deter other operators from infringing our trade marks.

'As highlighted by the judge, we have an excellent reputation as an online casino operator and a strong brand - these are extremely valuable assets in any marketplace.'
