Wisconsin Tribe Considers New Casino
WISCONSIN - (As reported by the Baraboo News Republic): "Ho-Chunk Nation leaders are considering a new casino somewhere in Wisconsin, a spokeswoman said Thursday, and a decision could be made public early next week.
"The gaming compact negotiated between the Nation and Wisconsin allows the Ho-Chunk to build a fourth casino, said Katie Matha, spokeswoman for Ho-Chunk President George Lewis.
"… The Nation has a location they would like to place the new facility, Matha said, but she would not make that public Thursday. It is within the area where Ho-Chunk people have traditionally lived, she said.
"'So far, it would just be a casino, slot machines,' Matha said.
"… The Ho-Chunk have had the option for a fourth casino since 1991 under an agreement negotiated with former Gov. Tommy Thompson, said Scott Larrivee, a spokesman for the state Division of Gaming.
"… Matha said she expects to have an official statement on the leadership's casino decision Tuesday afternoon.
