Wisconsin Ticket Wins $208 Million Powerball Jackpot
UNITED STATES – (PRESS RELEASE) -- One lucky ticket in Wisconsin matched all 6 numbers Saturday and walked away with the $208.6 million jackpot. The holder of the winning ticket will now have to decide to either take the 29- year, 30-installment annuity, or the one time cash "lump sum" amount of $95,821,171.
There were a total of 1,324,598 additional winning tickets in America's Game Saturday evening. Those winners won prizes totaling $9,725,747.
The numbers drawn were 2, 3, 9, 48, 50 and the Powerball was 23. The Power Play multiplier was 2.
Eight tickets correctly matched the 5 white numbers and won $200,000. These tickets were sold in Arizona (1), Colorado (1), Indiana (1), Kentucky (1), Louisiana (1), Minnesota (1), Missouri (1), and Oregon (1).
One lucky ticket in North Carolina that matched the 5 white numbers also had the Power Play multiplying the $200,000 prize by 2 for a total win of $400,000!
Fifty-seven tickets matched 4 white numbers plus the Powerball and won $10,000. Thirteen additional players not only matched 4+1, but also purchased the Power Play option, multiplying their prize by 2 for a total win of $20,000!
A total of 199,520 winning Powerball plays were multiplied by 2 Saturday evening. Winners were able to do so by purchasing the Power Play option for one dollar. With Power Play you can multiply your winnings, except for the jackpot, from 2 to 5 times. At the beginning of each drawing a wheel is spun to select that night's multiplier.
Players purchased more than $54.4 million in tickets between Wednesday and Saturday night.
The jackpot for Wednesday, August 9th will be $15 million.
The lotteries sold more than $2.8 billion in Powerball tickets in FY06. That translates into more than $825 million for worthwhile state projects.
Powerball is now played in 29 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
