CORK, Ireland -- As reported by the Cork Examiner: "A business studies student from Mallow, Co Cork, yesterday scooped €150,000, the biggest prize at a €1,000 freeze-out three-day poker tournament in Dublin.
"UCC student Kieran Walsh from Ironmines, Mallow, was the star player at the inaugural Irish Poker Championships at City West Hotel in Dublin which attracted players from Ireland and Britain.
"A total of 500 players entered the event, which boasted a €500,000 prize pool. The buy-in for the tournament was €1,000.
"The final table showdown will be broadcast on January 27 on RTÉ.
"Pro players who took part in the event, including WSOP 2005 Main Event final table finisher Andrew Black, members of the Hendon Mob, and Roy "The Boy" Brindley..."
