William Hill releases March Madness region futures

18 Mar 2021

(PRESS RELEASE) -- Looking for more ways to bet March Madness? Take a stab with tournament region futures at William Hill, where you can bet on any team to advance to the Final Four.

“We usually get some big bets on the No. 1 seeds to make it through,” said Nick Bogdanovich, Director of Trading for William Hill US. “But the masses are mostly focused on who will win it all. Now the sharps will try and pick off a number of the regions. They’ll scour them pretty good and see if we put up a bad number.”

The biggest odds-on favorite to come out of their respective region at William Hill is Gonzaga. The Bulldogs are currently -240 to represent the West Region in the Final Four after opening at -200.

“It makes sense why Gonzaga is such a big favorite,” Bogdanovich said. “They definitely got a pretty good schedule break. If you look at who they could possibly play, I don’t think you could ask for much more. But I’ve seen -200 favorites for regions before, this isn’t new.”

Iowa is next in the West at +400, followed by Kansas and Virginia at 12/1 apiece. One team that has experienced a sizable odds shift in this region is Oregon, who went from 50/1 down to 30/1.

Over in the Midwest Region, Illinois has the second-lowest odds of any No. 1 seed to survive their quarter of the bracket. The Fighting Illini are listed at +125, with Houston close behind at +225. The notable movers here, though, are a pair of Big 12 teams. Oklahoma State has swung from 12/1 to +800 and West Virginia has had a slight drop from 12/1 to 10/1.

In the East Region, No. 1-seeded Michigan has seen its odds rise from +120 to +160. While Alabama has stayed put at +400, Texas and Florida State have each changed from +850 to +600. One Nevada bettor has faith in the No. 4 seed to make a big run, placing $1,000 on Florida State +800 for a total potential payout of $9,000.

Baylor has the longest odds of any No. 1 seed to make the Final Four, as the Bears are +175 to make it out of the South Region after opening at +160. Ohio State is lurking at +300, with Arkansas (+750), Purdue (+850) and Texas Tech (+850) all in range. In fact, there are eight teams residing here with odds lower than 20/1 to make it to the Final Four, which is the most of any region.

Two of the noteworthy region futures wagers on long shots thus far at William Hill are $500 on Michigan State 60/1 to win the East Region ($30,500 total potential payout) and $982.05 on San Diego State 12/1 to win the Midwest Region ($12,766.65 total potential payout).
