West Warwick Official Opposes Casino Agreement
WEST WARWICK, Rhode Island – As reported by the Providence Journal: "Breaking with fellow casino supporters, Town Councilman John J. Flynn is opposing plans to restart negotiations with Harrah's Entertainment on a host-community agreement.
"The state Supreme Court does not expect to issue a ruling on the constitutionality of the casino referendum bill before mid-August, and Flynn says negotiations should await that decision.
"…Harrah's officials have made overtures recently to the Town Council about renewing negotiations that ended abruptly last year when the state's high court ruled that an earlier version of the casino legislation was unconstitutional.
"…But Flynn is objecting to Harrah's call for talks, saying the topic will only divide the council and distract from more pressing issues…"
