West Warwick Council Find New Negotiator

WEST WARWICK, Rhode Island – As reported by the Providence Journal: "Town Councilman Leo J. Costantino Jr. last night derided the council's decision to fire its casino negotiator and replace him with lawyer John Lynch, calling the move "political patronage."

"The council voted, 4-1, to replace William A. Poore, of Poore & Rosenbaum, with Lynch & Friel, a Warwick law firm that has represented Democratic council President Jeanne-Marie DiMasi in personal litigation, employs friends of Democratic Councilman John J. Flynn and is representing state Sen. Stephen D. Alves, a West Warwick Democrat, in a lawsuit.

"…Lynch will represent the town in negotiations with Harrah's Entertainment over a host agreement that will stipulate Harrah's payments to the town for supporting the company's proposed casino.

"Costantino, the council's lone Republican, had criticized the imminent decision on Monday, calling Poore a competent negotiator who represented the town for 1 1/2 years. He accused fellow council members of dismissing Poore to hire a lawyer who would speed negotiations by demanding few concessions from Harrah's…"
