Wagering Increases After NBA Brawl

26 Nov 2004

MONTREAL, Quebec – (PRESS RELEASE) -- In the aftermath of the worst brawl in sports history, Internet bookmaker BetUS.com has seen a dramatic increase in wagers placed on Eastern Conference futures. According to Mike Foreman, spokesperson for BetUS.com, wagers on Miami to win the Eastern Conference have increased ten-fold since the announcement of the Pacers' suspensions was released.

"Since Sunday, we have taken more than 1,200 bets -- ranging from $5 to $10,000 -- on the Heat to win the East," says Foreman. "This represents more NBA future betting than we've seen since opening our doors 12 years ago."

Now that three of the Pacers' star performers are out for significant parts of the season, gamblers have lost faith in a team it had once rated a strong contender to win the East and carry onto the NBA finals. Even the NBA players' union decision to file grievances on behalf of Ron Artest, Stephen Jackson and Jermaine O'Neal has not influenced sports bettors to reconsider the team's potential.

"Prior to last Friday's melee, the Pacers were listed second to Detroit to win the Eastern Conference," says Foreman. "Indiana was offered at odds of 2/1 to win the Conference, but in recent days, the odds have jumped to 6/1. In the wake of the suspensions, Miami has replaced Indiana as the favorite, alongside Detroit, to win the conference title and compete in the NBA Finals."

Additionally, BetUS.com has posted short odds of 3 to 2 (-150) that Artest will not be a Pacer next season. Odds that he will not play in NBA next season have been placed at 8 to 1.

"Artest and Carlisle's relationship has already been rocky. His suspension definitely puts his future with the Pacers in question," Foreman said. BetUS.com (http://www.BetUS.com) is one of the oldest and most respected legal online sports betting organizations in the world and is licensed and bonded in two recognized gaming jurisdictions -- Canada and Costa Rica.

Employing over 500 people, BetUS.com is a leading online sports betting website, providing a safe and secure place for sports wagering for more than 11 years. Members can enjoy wagering on some of their favorite sports including: professional football, basketball, baseball, hockey and boxing.
