Universal Joins Genting's Singapore Bid

SINGAPORE -- As reported by Reuters: "Genting International (SES:GNTG.SI) has roped in theme park giant Universal Studios for its bid to build Singapore's first casino, the company inadvertently revealed at a press briefing on Wednesday.

"Genting and sister company Star Cruises Ltd. (SES:SARC.SI), both affiliates of Malaysia's Genting Bhd (Kuala Lumpur:GENT.KL), showed reporters a poster with the design of their proposed $3 billion casino complex, with a "Universal Studios Movie Experience" listed among the attractions.

"The display was quickly dismantled when reporters asked officials about the inclusion of Universal Studios, which is owned by General Electric Co.'s (NYSE:GE) NBC Universal.

"The Genting group is seen as a more likely winner for the casino on Sentosa where it had previously announced it would work with Universal Studios, a unit of General Electric Co. (NYSE:GE), to build a theme park…"
