Try the One-Bet Method
ABBY: This is a very radical idea put forward by gaming author Frank Scoblete about the best way to wager at craps.
CINDY: Frank conceives as one of – if not THE thrill of the game – is the anticipation of waiting for the next decision. With one bet out there, the pressure is on big time that the next hit will put you over the top.
ABBY: Or you will be down completely on that shooter.
CINDY: So, how to structure your bet?
ABBY: When I do it, I wait for the shooter to establish his or her number and then I place either a $30 six or a $30 eight. The house edge is very low on such a bet.
CINDY: Just 1.52 percent.
ABBY: You have five chances to hit your number and the pay for a winner is $7 for $6. So, a win for me is $35. You do lose on the 7 six times. So, you are obviously going up against the house edge, small though it might be. You have five chances to win and six chances to lose but again your payout is $7 for $6 wagered.
CINDY: Now, you have 25 numbers that are just nothing. They don’t count one way or another.
ABBY: And that is the one bet game that I play. I do find it exciting and a hit, just one hit, can put you ahead. You’ll also find some decent streaks where a six or eight comes up a few times in a row or a few times in a given roll.
CINDY: Now, I can’t play that way. I want to get some hits on some shooters or I feel I am wasting my time. I am not actually wasting any time but my personality needs to be in the game with some hits – at least now and then. The one-bet thing just doesn’t work for me at all.
ABBY: You are, shall I say, a regular craps player. You need multiple action on each and every shooter. Otherwise, I am guessing you get antsy.
CINDY: Very antsy. But I do not make any of the poor bets. I stick with the pass-line bet and the placing of the six and eight. That way of playing is satisfactory for me.
ABBY: I do like the one-bet method. I am betting less money overall because I do not pump that one bet up very high. So, my exposure to the house edge is very low, at least in my opinion. Since we play a lot I want to maintain my bankroll. Frank is very much a “save my bankroll” type of player and I am with him on this.
CINDY: Craps players might want to give this method a try. They might find it useful and fun.
ABBY: I agree.
