Top 10 things to expect from the 2023 WSOP

The World Series of Poker, which begins on the Las Vegas Strip on 30 May and runs through 18 July, is the most prestigious poker event in the world, attracting thousands of players from all over the globe. As the poker community eagerly awaits the moment when the cards finally go in the air, expectations are high for what this year’s series of events will bring.

Everyone is anticipating that this year’s WSOP will attract a record number of participants, so we decided to delve into the top 10 things to expect from the WSOP in 2023.

10. New events
The WSOP organizers are always looking for ways to innovate and attract more players to the tournament.

One thing that makes the WSOP exciting is its variety of events, and we can expect to see at least two new events in 2023, Gladiators of Poker and Ultra Stack.

Players on a tight budget will be glad to hear that Gladiators of Poker will have the lowest buy-in for a live event as it only costs $300. On the other hand, it is rumored that the Ultra Stack will be a super-deep stack event with a $600 buy-in.

9. More satellite tournaments
Satellite tournaments are essential to the WSOP since they allow players to qualify for the main event by winning a smaller buy-in tournament.

According to GGPoker, we can expect to see even more satellite tournaments added to the schedule. The poker platform has committed to sending at least 600 players to the WSOP with their satellites.

If everything goes as planned, the organizers hope that more players than ever will have a chance to qualify for the Main Event and produce a new turnout record.

8. Return of the Mysterious Bounty
The Mystery Millions tournament, popularly called the Mystery Bounty event, will return at the WSOP 2023.

The tournament will have a $1,000 buy-in and offer bounties starting from $10,000, with $1 million going to the lucky winner and any bounties they earn on their way to victory.

Judging by some of the previous WSOP events, we expect the tournament to have one of the biggest fields during the first weekend.

7. New venue
After a year of renovations, the Horseshoe Las Vegas will be ready to host the biggest poker event of the year for the second straight year following a long run of it being held off Strip at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino.

The Horseshoe Casino, which is the former Bally’s Casino, is a well-known brand to poker players as it has been operating since the early 1950s. In addition to owning the 2023 WSOP venue, Caesars Entertainment also operates 10 Horseshoe properties in North America.

Furthermore, the Horseshoe will also be home to a one-of-a-kind World Series of Poker Hall of Fame Poker Room, which will honor the most legendary players.

6. Introduction of the first Badugi bracelet event
If you are a fan of Badugi, you will be glad to hear that the 2023 WSOP will feature the maiden Badugi event in which players compete for a bracelet. The event will have a $1,500 buy in and will begin on 7 June.

For all of you unfamiliar with this game, Badugi is a lowball poker variation in which players compete to put together the best possible low hand. The best possible hand in Badugi is A, 2, 3, 4, but for the hand to qualify, all four cards must be of different ranks and a different suit.

5. The WSOP Online Bracelet Series with more events
The WSOP Online Bracelet series will start in early June and go up to mid-July, with events being available to players from the four U.S. states that offer regulated online poker in which WSOP.com is available (Nevada, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New Jersey).

Nevada and New Jersey will be merged into one series with 20 events available (seven more than 2022). The tournaments will be available at WSOP NJ and WSOP NV, with buy-ins ranging from $333 to $5,300.

Online bracelet events for Pennsylvania will start 4 June on WSOP PA, featuring seven events, including two PKO events and a Summer Saver No-Limit, Hold’em event.

The online series for Michigan will also start on 4 June and feature seven events. The buy-ins will start at $300 and go up to $600.

4. Live satellite tournaments around the world
The first Global Qualification Weekend for WSOP 2023 was held last weekend in live poker rooms across four continents. Players worldwide had the chance to qualify for the 2023 Main Event via satellites that start from $140 and go up to $1,175.

This will be a great opportunity for players to feel the live poker atmosphere of WSOP even before the official event starts. In addition to being held in the U.S, live qualifiers will be hosted in the Czech Republic, France, Canada, Uruguay, Morocco, and maybe even United Kingdom.

3. Special events
Based on previous WSOPs and industry trends, it's likely that the 2023 WSOP will feature various special events and promotions to attract players and fans. Some potential special events that will probably be featured at the 2023 WSOP are High Roller Tournaments and Celebrity Tournaments, which have become increasingly popular over the last few years.
