Top 10 reasons to visit The Mirage in Las Vegas
10. The history
Built by developer Steve Wynn, the property’s original cost was $565 million. One of Wynn’s reasons for bringing The Mirage to reality was to host boxing matches to compete with Caesars Palace next door.
To follow through with the resort’s name, Wynn had to buy the rights from La Mirage Casino and Mirage Motel in Las Vegas for $250,000 each. The Mirage opened a couple of weeks earlier than planned, and when opened, it was the largest hotel in the world with 3,044 rooms.
9. 1 OAK Nightclub
The 16,000-square-foot nightclub has two rooms, each complemented with a full-service bar and a DJ booth.
If you want to see guest appearances and performances from stars like Fergie, Wiz Khalifa and Pitbull, then you may want to put 1 OAK on your agenda. It is located right in the resort, and the dress code is more upscale than casual.
The nightclub is open on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights.
8. Secret garden and dolphin habitat
When people think of white tigers in Las Vegas, they usually put magicians with that thought. However, that isn’t the only chance for people to see such animals.
Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat at The Mirage gives guests the opportunity to see tigers, lions and panthers.
In addition to all the different cats to be seen roaming the grass areas, people can head to the underwater viewing area to see the dolphins in their tank.
The attraction is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. All day passes cost $22 for adults, and children from ages 4 to 12 can get passes for $17.
7. Rhumbar
Rhumbar is a great place for anyone who wants to enjoy a nice cigar and drink with a fun atmosphere.
With several specialty drinks and cigars to choose from, the lounge offers indoor and outdoor seating while inviting DJs, performers and entertainers nightly.
The patio-style venue has room for dancing and contains several TVs throughout the area to watch sports games as well.
It’s not a bad night when you are in Las Vegas with a drink in one hand and a cigar in the other overlooking The Strip.
6. Table minimums
When players go into a casino, the first thing that many look at is the buy-in at a table. More experienced players may be more willing to go higher on the table minimums, but beginners will be looking to sit down at lower tables such as a $5 or $10 table.
A $5 table is not the easiest to find in Las Vegas, but $10 ones are present at The Mirage for games such as roulette, blackjack and craps. When I stayed at The Mirage in May, there were several $10 tables available.
If you are looking for something more intense, there is a high-limit lounge that offers buy-ins for blackjack and other table games up to $2,000 per hand.
This range from $10 to $2,000 per hand gives an opportunity for beginners and experts to find an amount they are comfortable with.
5. The location
One of the more underrated attributes of The Mirage is its location on The Strip. The resort sits next to Caesars Palace and across the street from The Venetian Las Vegas, two of the most commonly known resorts in Las Vegas.
Another good thing about the location is that it is also across the street from Casino Royale and Hotel. The reason this is important is that Casino Royale has ATMs that charge only $3, which is the lowest on the Strip. Rather than paying up to $10 at ATMs throughout the Strip, you can just walk across the street and save yourself some money.
They may not be next door to The Mirage like Caesars Palace is, but Bellagio and Paris Las Vegas are both less than a mile walk if people want to go see the fountains at Bellagio or the Eiffel Tower at Paris Las Vegas.
4. Tom Colicchio’s Heritage Steakhouse
If you want a steak dinner at the Mirage, Tom Colicchio’s Heritage Steakhouse is the place to eat.
The restaurant opened in 2010, and has 220 seats ready to be filled. It is on the pricier side, but according to reviews it is worth it because of the quality of the food and ambiance.
All of the meat and seafood are cooked over an open flame, from wood-burning ovens to charcoal grills.

3. Bare pool lounge
Guests have a chance to unwind and relax even further at the bare pool lounge at The Mirage.
The 14,000-square-foot venue has five cabanas, eight VIP beds, eight daybeds, four tables and two dipping pools.
The pool is open from Thursday to Monday and Mirage guests receive complimentary admission before noon. If entering later than noon, men pay $20 and women $10 to get in.
The pool is also available to book private events for up to 450 people at the tree-enclosed environment that allows guests to enjoy European-style sunbathing.

2. Sportsbook
With the World Series underway, the NFL season reaching its halfway point, and the NBA and NHL seasons recently beginning, it's tough not to end up watching or placing a bet on a game in Las Vegas.
Hitting The Mirage sportsbook and watching a game you just wagered on in their comfortable leather seats is the way to go.
The completely smoke-free venue has several 85’ HD projection screens complemented by many smaller screens throughout the book.
If you have a group, you can look into the VIP beverage packages that are available. For $50, guests can enjoy all-you-can-drink selected beers and mixed drinks while enjoying the viewing atmosphere.

1. The volcano show
If you are going to be stopping by The Mirage, let alone staying there, seeing the volcano is a must.
With gambling, sportsbooks and nightclubs, Las Vegas may not seem like a place for the whole family, but when you see amenities such as the volcano at The Mirage, you know there is fun for everyone.
Every night at 7 p.m., 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. outside the main entrance, families and kids can see the volcano erupt along with 12-foot flames on the adjacent lagoon. You will definitely feel the heat from the show and be caught in awe with the size and power of these flames.
If you want a good view, you will have to get there early to get a good standing spot. The show usually sees a large crowd each hour because it is free.
