Top 10 casino openings and expansions for winter 2023

In just eight days, land-based sports betting in Massachusetts will officially launch and several sportsbooks will open their doors to the public. However there are plenty of other openings and expansions, recently and soon-to-come, since our last edition. So, let’s take a look at those.

10. Red Rock Casino set to open two new food destinations
Bua Food Group will launch its newest concepts, Naxos Taverna and Kallisto Oyster Bar at Naxos, at Red Rock Casino, Resort & Spa in Las Vegas on Saturday, 18 February.

Kallisto Oyster Bar at Naxos showcases more than 25 types of fish and several varieties of oysters, along with other seafood specialties, including a pan roast, at a 13-seat bar.

Naxos Taverna is a story of culinary experience, flavors, and hospitality that captures the spirit of its namesake, Naxos. An island in the southeast of Greece in the Aegean Sea, Naxos was announced in ancient times as the isle of Dionysus, the god of wine and celebration.

9. Buffalo Bill's Casino reopens following multimillion-dollar renovation
Earlier this month, Buffalo Bill's Resort and Casino reopened following a multimillion-dollar renovation.

Redesigned hotel rooms, a refreshed casino floor with a new "Tree Bar" featuring 85" TVs, and additional slot machines with the latest game themes and progressives are among the renovations at the Nevada property.

The dining outlet, BB Chophouse, will showcase a live-action kitchen in the center of the room, where guests can watch chefs prepare the finest steaks, chops, and seafood.

Buffalo Bill's Star of the Desert Arena has also undergone renovations, including the addition of a half-million-dollar video wall that provides attendees with a new concert experience.

8. Flight Club Social Darts Las Vegas celebrates grand opening
On Thursday, 15 December, State of Play Hospitality celebrated the grand opening of Flight Club Las Vegas with an exclusive event with entertainment, food and beverage offerings and special guests.

The environment has 20 oches with traditional oak dartboards, a life-sized 27-seat carousel bar and three exclusive, semi-private spaces for guests and groups.

7. Southland Casino Hotel in Arkansas completes its expansion
Last month, Southland Casino Hotel in Arkansas celebrated the completion of a $320 million dollar expansion.

The project included a new 300-room, 20-story hotel with 12 penthouse suites, and a 113,000-square-foot gaming floor that features 2,400 slot machines, 50 live table games and a variety of bars and dining options.

The three-year project completes the transformation of the one-time racetrack (Southland Casino Racing), which began with the addition of 750 gaming machines 16 years ago, into a full-fledged Las Vegas-style casino destination with a hotel.

6. Paragon Casino Resort adding Topgolf Swing Suite
Three weeks ago, Paragon Casino Resort announced it is opening central Louisiana’s first Topgolf Swing Suite in the Draft Room in early 2023. Construction has already begun and is expected to be completed by mid-March.

The Topgolf Swing Suite will feature two simulator bays and a variety of virtual games – including Topgolf target game, Zombie Dodgeball, Hockey Shots, Baseball Pitching Carnival Classic – paired with lounge seating, HDTVs, and food and beverage service.

Up to eight people can play, eat, drink and hang out in each bay. The space will be available to rent for business and social gatherings, including birthday and bachelorette/bachelor parties, team-building events, corporate meetings and more.

5. Guy Fieri’s Flavortown Sports Kitchen coming to Las Vegas
Guy Fieri’s Flavortown Sports Kitchen will open this summer as part of Horseshoe Las Vegas’ ongoing brand transformation from Bally’s Las Vegas.

Flavortown Sports Kitchen will span 6,540 square feet and seat up to 279 throughout the bar, main dining area and rotunda. The restaurant will feature a 360-degree island bar with decorative liquor displays and LED screens for sports fanatics. For another viewing experience or a private event, guests might enjoy a more intimate space in the MVP lounge on game day or for a special occasion.

4. Bay Mills Resort & Casino opens permanent DraftKings Sportsbook
In early November, DraftKings and Bay Mills Resort & Casino celebrated the grand opening of a permanent retail DraftKings Sportsbook, which includes expanded amenities and entertainment options.

Following the ceremony, guests in attendance at the Michigan book were invited to watch the Detroit Lions vs. Green Bay Packers game live from the new space, which features a wall of eight large high-definition televisions.

The retail DraftKings Sportsbook includes in-game sports betting and other engaging wagering options. Within the sportsbook, customers can find real-time score updates, three odds boards and four kiosks to place bets. An additional two kiosks are located on the main casino floor.

3. Wind Creek Bethlehem opens new poker room
Just days before Christmas, Wind Creek Bethlehem in Pennsylvania announced the opening of a new and improved Poker Room complete with 20 tables.

The enclosed Poker Room offers several amenities including:
  • A dedicated cage cashier inside of the room
  • Table side massage service
  • An upgraded poker lounge for guests waiting to play
  • Complimentary beverage service

2. Ontario’s first full-service sportsbook opens at Caesars Windsor
On 12 January, a moment that Ontario sports fans had been waiting for finally arrived with the grand opening of Ontario’s first full-service sportsbook, Caesars Sportsbook at Caesars Windsor.

To commemorate the opening, Hockey Hall of Famer, Grant Fuhr, took part in the ribbon-cutting and ceremonial first bet.

Caesars Sportsbook at Caesars Windsor is located in front of Legends Sports Bar with three betting windows and seven betting kiosks. The 1,618-square-foot space also features 22 large-screen HD LED TVs.

Bets can be placed on a wide range of sports including professional football, basketball, baseball, hockey, soccer, auto racing, and more.

1. Resorts World Hudson Valley grand opening
New York’s newest casino, Resorts World Hudson Valley, celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, 28 December.

Located 60 miles north of Manhattan, New York’s newest casino features 60,000 square feet of gaming and hospitality space, including 1,200 slot machines and electronic table games, as well as the Resorts World Bet Sports Bar.
