But here's a word of advice to men everywhere: No matter how much you want your new lady friend to pay for that lobster bisque, don't resort to petty theft in to cover the costs of your love life.
According to The Telegraph, a London man allegedly tried to steal his date's phone after she refused to split the bill after an unsuccessful first date.
The mane allegedly follow his date before swiping her Blackberry phone and taking off running.
He was charged with one count of theft, but swore to jurors that he intended to give the phone back as soon as she paid her share of the tab.
Your honor, The Reel Life would like to call stupidity on this one. Even if you could argue that both are equally responsible for their share of the bill, there is no way a rational human being could think that theft is the correct move here.
Look, we realize this is the 21st century, but that doesn't mean chivalry has to be replaced by outlaw behavior. Men: if you are really dead set on splitting a bill with a date, you need to set these parameters up front. Granted, your date will probably walk out the second you suggest this, but at least you won't end up resorting to criminal activity at the end of the night.
The Reel Life thinks all restaurant or bar tabs -- whatever the occasion -- should be decided by credit card roulette. If you can't afford to foot the whole bill, you shouldn’t go out at all. Over the long run, everyone will break even.
