The Reel Life: Tax season edition
The Reel Life hates tax season. The only benefit in doing taxes is getting a refund. The Reel Life was lucky enough to get one and you can bet most of it went to feed our online slots habit. And while we love it when the government pays us back, we think a man in Florida might have taken this concept it a little too far.
According to the Miami New Times, Marlon "X-Large" Moore had a novel idea on how to make some money after serving a six-year sentence in prison on felony money laundering charges. He decided to cheat on his taxes.
Of course, a lot of people cheat on their taxes. It's usually something minor like fudging a small part of a business expense or overvaluing a charity donation. But, true to his name, "X-Large" took it to the next level (and a few levels after that).
The Miami New Times says that "in separate filings, Moore asked for $5,959,000,000,000 and $2,975,000,000,000. A third form rounded up and asked for another $6,000,000,000,000. (That's $5 trillion, $2.97 trillion and $6 trillion, for the math averse)."
If the IRS decided that Moore's claims were valid, the payout would have exceeded the U.S. national debt.
Not surprisingly, "X-Large" was arrested on four counts of submitting false claims. Usually by now The Reel Life would impart some wisdom onto the accused, but we have a feeling any advice we give would give would fall on deaf ears.
