The Reel Life: Gator wrestling edition

22 Aug 2017

Tim Williams, the dean of gator wrestling, is retiring from wrestling gators, reports the Orlando Sentinel.

"Dean of gator wrestling" is not a euphemism for anything; Williams' job for the past 27 years has been in public relations and entertainment at Gatorland, where he started off doing alligator-wrestling performances. He eventually moved into teaching younger alligator wrestlers, and developed most of Gatorland's entertainment department, which now runs several shows. Williams also works with outside media, such as television, to bring alligator-based edutainment to the masses.

Williams will still be around for special events at Gatorland, but plans to spend most of his retirement at his house on a little lake. The lake, he says, is also full of gators, because it's still in Florida. Guess the guy really, really likes alligators—we're pretty sure we'd be tired of them by now and would move somewhere completely lacking in gators, but to each his own.

Williams has no plans to wrestle these gators, because there's some stuff you just don't do for free.
