The U.S. embassy in Canberra recently apologized for getting everyone's hopes up after they sent out an invitation to a "cat pyjama-jam," featuring a photograph of a cat in a Cookie Monster onesie holding a plate of chocolate chip cookies.
The embassy says that the invitation, titled "meeting," was created to test out a newsletter software program, and was not supposed to actually be sent.
"Such an event falls well outside of our area of expertise," wrote public affairs counselor Gavin Sundwall, in an apology email he sent afterwards.
This is, in our opinion, a flimsy excuse. Having invited a bunch of people to a cat pyjama-jam, we believe it would be good form for Sundwall and his colleagues to find someone who does have expertise in hosting feline-themed parties and get this event up and running.
