The Reel Life

17 Dec 2009

The Reel Life can get frustrated playing the online slots. Sometimes it feels like we're never going to hit a jackpot. We've thrown things, we've cursed, and we've vowed to never play again. However, we've never vowed to burn a house down. A British man can't say the same thing.

According to the Bridlington Free Press, a 50-year-old man threatened to burn down a bookmaker after being told that his winning bet was void. Michael Akaidere was told by a manager at Bridlington's Betfred bookmaker that she could not read the writing on his betting slip. Akaidere, who was reportedly intoxicated at the time, became verbally abusive. A male manager was able to calm Akaidere down and he was allowed to make another bet.

He won that bet, and then made another bet. He felt that this bet entitled him to £30, but was told that he made the bet too late. That set him off again, and he began swearing and kicking chairs.

This is where it gets fun. According to the Free Press, Akaidere left the shop, but not before saying "'I'm going to burn this place down. Your firm will regret this.' (He) then returned to the bookmaker's and handed a piece of paper to the manageress with a name and address on it, telling her she might as well have his details to give to the police so they knew who had set fire to the shop."

Akaidere was arrested and charged with various public disorder offenses. He was ordered "to pay £75 compensation to the manageress, £75 in court costs and was given an 18-month conditional discharge," according to the Free Press. The Reel Life can't say that we'll never curse or kick anything after a tough day at the slots. But we vow to never burn our house down.

Get in the fast lane grandma, the Bingo game is ready to roll!
