Sweden faces lawsuit from EU over gambling monopoly

SWEDEN -- The EU Commission will sue Sweden for maintaining a gambling monopoly which contravenes EU regulations on the "free movement of services", Reuters reported.The Commission contends in a statement that Sweden imposes restrictions on the organisation and promotion of online betting that are inconsistent with EU law, the report said.
This is the first time the EU has taken a state to court over its gambling laws, Reuters noted.
