JAPAN -- The ancient and respected sport of Sumo wrestling in Japan has been rocked by recent scandal and is facing an unstable future, The Guardian reported.

Two dozen wrestlers may face expulsion, according to the report.

There are allegations at the top end of the profession of involvement in a illegal gambling ring, The Guardian reported.

65 out of 700 wrestlers have already admitted placing bets, which is contrary to Japan's strict gambling laws, the report said.
