Station to Lease Land in Reno
Station Casinos announced Friday it has agreed to lease with an option to buy eight more acres of gaming-entitled land in Reno.
Plans for the land, across the street from the Reno-Sparks Convention Center in Reno, call for development of a boutique hotel-casino, but no details are available.
It is the third parcel of land either purchased or leased by the company in the Reno market in the past year.
Last month, Station Casinos said it had agreed to purchase 50 acres of land on the southwest corner of Mount Rose Highway and Interstate 395 to build a regional gaming and entertainment project.
Earlier this year, the company bought a 96-acre parcel at Geiger Grade Road and South Virginia Street.
Station Casinos spokeswoman Lori Nelson said the Mount Rose Highway site will probably be the first developed, although planning for the Reno market is still in its infancy despite the company's commitment to the market.
Last year, Station Casinos encountered controversy with Nevada regulators over its commitment to tribal casino development in California, especially Thunder Valley Casino near Sacramento, compared with its activities in the Reno market.
Station Casinos shares rose 15 cents Friday to close at $66.55.
