18 Jun 2010

TRENTON, New Jersey -- New Jersey wants to be ready for sports and Internet betting, The Press of Atlantic City reported.

Democratic state lawmakers want a gaming summit that will address the various proposals that want sports and internet betting to go to a public vote later this year, the report said.

The debate is complicated and the various interests need reconciling because there are different versions of sports and online betting bills which have begun to move through the Senate, the Press of Atlantic City said.

New Jersey wants to be prepared to ask voters "to authorize" sports betting if a federal ban in place at present is lifted, The Press of Atlantic City report explained.
