SpadeClub closes doors, migrates players to ZEN Network

17 Sep 2010

By Aaron Todd
Card Player Media's experimentation with a subscription-based poker site – at least on its own – has come to an end. SpadeClub.com, which had boasted a $30,000 monthly guaranteed tournament and weekly $5,000 events for players who paid a monthly fee, has ceased to exist. Players from the site will be migrated to the Zen Entertainment Network.

"Going forward, all SpadeClub members are being offered a chance to participate in the transition to the ZEN Entertainment Network," an e-mail from the company informed players. "ZEN's VIP program will honor all time already purchased by SpadeClub members. Basic members can continue to play for free as well."

Players will have 30 days to cash out existing balances.

In the place of SpadeClub, Card Player has launched cardplayerpoker.com on the ZEN Network, which includes NLOP.com, UFCPoker.com and WWEPoker.com. The site offers free-to-play tournaments, as well as VIP tournaments open to subscribers who pay $20/month, or $180 for a year.

Subscription-based poker sites can operate from within the United States and allow Americans to play because players do not wager money in ring games or tournaments. Instead, the monthly subscription is a fee for access to the service.
