Snooker player cleared of match-fixing

8 Sep 2010

LONDON, England -- Three times world champion snooker player John Higgins was cleared of matchfixing, but banned for six months and fined, The Daily Mail reported.

Higgins must pay $75,000 for breaking rules and failing to report a dodgy approach, the report said.

Higgins said he feared intimidation from Russian gangsters but had no intention of fixing a snooker match, according to the Daily Mail.

Higgins admitted he failed to "report the approach promptly to World Snooker", the Daily Mail report said.
