SkyCity Shares Fall

NEW ZEALAND – As reported by the Australia Courier Mail: "Shares in Skycity Entertainment Group fell sharply yesterday after the NZ-based gaming firm downgraded its full-year profit forecast due largely to the worse than expected impact of smoking bans.

"Skycity, whose flagship casino and entertainment complex is in Auckland, also operates the Adelaide and Darwin casinos. The company revised downwards its earnings guidance for fiscal 2005 to between $NZ100 million and $NZ103 million (US$71.18 million and US$73.3 million), saying the introduction of NZ smoking bans in December 2004 had had a significant impact on revenue at hospitality and entertainment venues.

"…Skycity shares fell 18¢, or 4.4 per cent, to $3.95 yesterday.

"…Factors influencing performance included the impact of non-smoking legislation, which was potentially greater than originally predicted…"
