Sky City Hedges Building Bets for Casino

AUSTRALIA – As reported by the New Zealand Herald: "SkyCity has set aside up to A$70 million (US$45.4 million) for a three-year redevelopment of its Adelaide casino.

"But the casino and entertainment company has thrown down a challenge to Australian politicians, saying the extent of the investment will depend on several factors, including the effects of looming regulatory changes across the Tasman.

"A day after opening an expansion to its Auckland casino, SkyCity Entertainment Group yesterday announced plans for a similar-sized addition to the gambling floor of its Adelaide site.

"…But SkyCity said these would depend on factors, including `an uncertain regulatory environment'.

"Spokeswoman Delwyn Lewer said this included legislation related to smoking and the gambling industry…"
