Sky Bet cuts Messi World Player odds

7 Apr 2010

(PRESS RELEASE) -- Sky Bet Sports have slashed Lionel Messi's odds of being named FIFA World Player of the Year for the second year running to 2/7 (from 8/11) following his four-goal haul against Arsenal in the Champions League on Tuesday. Doubling his goal tally to eight in this year's competition, Messi looks set to top the scoring charts and Sky Bet have now closed the book on the Champions League top goalscorer betting.

The unstoppable Argentinian, who went into the game having already hit three hat-tricks in 2010, scored another in the space of 21 minutes in Tuesday's quarter-final second leg and is 8/1 with Sky Bet to net another treble in Europe this season. It's 20/1 that he bags another three goals at the Bernabéu in Saturday's 'El Clásico.'

Sky Bet's football betting spokesman Dale Tempest said: "Every superlative has been used to describe Messi's performance against Arsenal. The frightening thing is, at 22, his best days are ahead of him."

In the Champions League outright betting, Barça have been cut to 10/11 (from 11/8) to be the first team to retain the title and Sky Bet now make a Barcelona v Manchester United final a 9/4 chance.
