Seneca Casino Location Could Change

BUFFALO, New York – As reported by the Buffalo News: "The Seneca Nation of Indians would abandon plans for a downtown Buffalo casino if Cheektowaga succeeds in overturning a court decision that blocks casino development outside the city, a town attorney argued Wednesday.

"Cheektowaga Town Attorney Michael J. Stachowski appeared before the Appellate Division of State Supreme Court to argue the town's appeal of a lower-court ruling that thwarted Seneca plans for a casino near Buffalo Niagara International Airport.

"…The Senecas declined to comment on Stachowski's statements. But when the Senecas announced plans early this month to buy property in the Cobblestone District for a casino, they also made clear their continuing interest in Cheektowaga, if legal barriers are lifted.

"…The Senecas are not a formal party in the Cheektowaga appeal, but the nation has been active behind the scenes…"
