San Manuel Casino extends closure through 30 April
3 Apr 2020
"The Serrano value of Yawa’ (“to act on our beliefs”) led the Tribe to protect the health and safety of guests, team members and Tribal Citizens by temporarily suspending casino operations beginning on March 15 due to the situation surround COVID-19. This innate belief also led us to support our 5,000 person workforce with full pay and benefits during this closure through April 11. Consistent with expert guidance on managing through this pandemic, we are extending the casino closure through April 30.
When we think about scenarios where the casino does not open on May 1, we recognize two very different realities: that we want to care for our team members in every way we can, and that we must preserve the future financial viability of our enterprise. We have worked tirelessly on a solution and can report that during this period there will be no layoffs. However, during this time, team members at all levels will receive their full benefits, but will see their compensation reduced, with senior staff impacted most significantly. The Business Committee has elected to forfeit compensation for this period. While we don’t know what’s around the corner, we are working hard to keep our team intact for as long as we can."
We will keep you updated on our re-opening status through our website, email and social media channels.
Please stay safe, and we look forward to seeing you soon.
