Rivers Casino begins daily poker tournaments

10 Apr 2017

(PRESS RELEASE) -- Rivers Casino & Resort Schenectady is holding its first-ever poker tournament today in its premier 15-table poker room.

No-limit hold'em poker tournaments will be held Monday through Thursday, in addition to cash games that will continue to take place around the clock. The poker tournaments will also be in addition to the daily High Hand Jackpot that is paid out six times a day, seven days a week in the poker room, along with the benefits of being a Rush Rewards member and other monthly promotions.

There will initially be two types of tournaments offered: No-limit hold'em and no-limit hold'em bounty. For each tournament, players are given $10,000 in chips and blinds increase every 15 minutes. After the first 45 minutes, the ante also increases, along with the blinds.

Bounty tournaments are no-limit hold'em with an extra prize opportunity. Players pay for an additional bounty chip when they buy-in. If eliminated, the bounty chip is given to the player that eliminated him or her.

"Our Poker Room has been tremendously popular since Opening Day, and one thing that players have been asking for is tournament action. Tournaments offer an exciting way to win a nice sum of money with a small amount of risk. This is particularly true for the novice player looking to hone their skills," said Rivers Casino & Resort Schenectady General Manager Mary Cheeks. "We're proud we're able to offer tournaments, in addition to the other promotions and prizes that have already been so well received by our guests."

No-limit hold'em poker allows up to 10 players per table. Each player gets two hole cards, which are dealt face down so that each player can only see their cards. All players can then use the five community cards that are dealt face up. Players can bet on their hand after they receive their two hole cards, then again after the first three community cards are dealt, the flop, after the fourth card is dealt, the turn, and lastly after the fifth card is dealt, the river. The object is to get the best five-card hand. A total buy-in of $75 is necessary to enter the tournament.

Tournaments are just one addition to Rivers' Poker Room. Since Opening Day, Rivers has also introduced High Hand Jackpots, which pay out six times daily, seven days a week. The player with the highest hand in the Poker Room during a period of time will collect the jackpot.

Rush Rewards Club members playing in the Poker Room are also eligible to win during Fast Cash Fridays in the month of April. Rivers will give away $40,000 in cash during the month through Hot Seat prizes every hour from noon to 6 p.m. on Fridays, which culminate with a drawing for a $5,000 cash prize at 7 p.m., every single Friday in April.

Rivers Casino & Resort Schenectady features a 50,000-square-foot gaming floor with 1,150 slot machines, 67 gaming tables and 15 poker tables. The floor is attached to a 10,000-square-foot banquet facility capable of hosting more than 900 people for conventions and special events, one of the largest spaces in the region. Also on the property are five restaurants, the Splash Spa and a 165-room hotel (opening summer of 2017).
