René Jansen speaks at gaming conference in Holland

8 Jun 2023

(PRESS RELEASE) -- René Jansen, chairman of the Dutch Gaming Authority, gave a speech this morning at the annual conference of Gaming in Holland.

Prohibition of untargeted advertising
In his speech, he discusses the upcoming ban on untargeted advertising for online gambling. The KSA realizes that this is a topic that raises many questions. That is why it will not focus on enforcing the ban in the first period after the ban enters into force on 1 July 2023. The emphasis will be on talking to providers and affiliates to see how the ban works out in practice. Of course, this does not alter the fact that the KSA calls on providers to restore trust in the industry and not to push the boundaries.

Control database (Cdb)
More than 1.5 years after the opening of the online gambling market, there are still providers who do not have their data vault, the so-called Control Database, in order. The KSA will monitor this more strictly from now on, it is now really time that all providers have their Cdb in order. A well-functioning Cdb is crucial for a safe market.

Duty
In the past period, the KSA has conducted extensive research into the duty of care and its implementation. In the summer we will publish a summary of the results. Providers each give their own supplement to the duty of care. This means that the interpretation of the duty of care is very diverse. In this area too, the KSA calls on providers to use their common sense and always keep safe gaming in mind.

Restore confidence in the sectorFinally, René Jansen calls on providers to restore confidence in the gambling sector. As Ksa, we see that the gaming landscape is in full swing, and that there are the necessary challenges for providers. At the same time, the KSA also sees that the online gambling market is doing well, according to the recently published monitoring report. Licensees themselves have an important hand in the development of the online market in the Netherlands. This requires both responsible behaviour on the part of individual providers and joint responsibility on the part of the sector.
