Rebecca Liggero
Rebecca Liggero loves meeting new people and traveling – perfect qualities for someone who has won friends and influenced people in the worldwide online gaming community. After graduating from Bates College with a degree in psychology, Rebecca spent four years in Washington, DC, working in relationship management, dreaming all the while about someday making it big in online gaming. After turning down an opportunity to live in New Zealand, she moved back to Boston and signed on as Senior Account Manager for Casino City – the beginning of a dream come true! Rebecca’s work on behalf of Casino City (and later for the GPWA as well) took her to trade shows and conferences everywhere – Amsterdam, Barcelona, Costa Rica, Montreal, London, Las Vegas, Macau and many other ports of call – and along the way she began chronicling her incredible around-the-clock adventures in a wildly entertaining and industry-savvy weekly column that quickly became – and still remains – must reading for everyone who is anyone in online gaming. Following almost three years with the Casino City team, Rebecca spent a few months at Everest Affiliates where she was the Brand Manager of the affiliate program. While working on “the other side,” she realized that she truly missed her weekly column and the affiliate side of the business and decided to return to the Casino City family. One and a half years later, Rebecca resigned from Casino City and joined industry icon Calvin Ayre to serve as the Bodog Global Brand Ambassador and the head on-site reporter for the online gambling industry tablog, CalvinAyre.com. In her new capacity, Rebecca continues to travel the world, and when asked where she is based, her response is usually "on an airplane." Contact Rebecca at rebecca@liggero.net. Be careful, though – she might quote you.

Rebecca's Recommendations - October 6, 2006

6 Oct 2006

By Rebecca Liggero
Ok. Don't panic. I know that I'm addressing three audiences here- online gaming advertisers and operators, affiliates, and players (mostly American). If for some reason you have not heard (god help you if you fall into this category), a bill was just passed in the US stating that banks cannot process online gaming transactions. As a result, many online gaming sites, especially those that are publicly traded, have either stopped or plan to stop accepting US players. Awesome. The good news: there are still a number of sites that DO accept American players. Over the coming weeks I'll be sure to keep you updated on these sites so my fellow Americans can continue to have fun and spend their hard earned money in any way that they choose. The bad news: there is a still a lot of uncertainty surrounding the bill, its implications, and what the US government will do next. Therefore, there will be many changes as we more forward from today. Don't worry about me though- if the online gaming industry goes down the tubes I do have a plan B in place...I am going into the porn biz with Ron Jeremy or Juan and I will open up a cantina on the coast of Costa Rica. Either way I'm happy- I think I'd make a great porn star or bartender. I'll keep you posted on my decision.

In the meantime, I will do what I can to keep my American players aware of where they can play and cannot play. To assist in this quest, Online Casino City has added a "no US player accepted" label under the appropriate online casino listings. Additionally, I would like to recommend a few sites that should not be denying US players anytime soon. Lets begin with an obvious old favorite- Bodog.com. Bodog is privately owned and we all know that the company is not afraid of the US government, hence the "Catch me if you can" Forbes article. Aside from their flashy CEO who we all know and love, Bodog.com offers plenty of games, a newly designed casino, and a very popular poker room. Speaking of poker, I just got a message from my Crazy Poker contact asking me to please announce that the Microgaming Poker Network is coming close to 1,000,000,000 hands dealt! If you are playing at Crazy Poker when this 1 billionth hand is dealt, you could be a winner of one of the many prizes set aside for this big moment. Lastly, I spoke to my Casino Rewards contact, and he assured me they will be accepting US players for at least the next couple of months as they are privately owned. The Casino Rewards family includes many great online casino choices such as Golden Tiger Casino, Lucky Emperor Casino and Captain Cooks Casino. In addition to the above, my featured sites of the week are all continuing to accept US players for the time being, so please be sure to check them out as well.

Lastly, I would like to encourage all of you to review the GPWA forum as our CEO and Industry Reporter continue to provide some insight and clarity towards this bill and its repercussions. Also, if you are feeling pretty irritated right now, please read Eric M's post on the Bluff Magazine forum to get you even more irritated, and then write your local senator a nasty letter. That should make you feel better. Rebecca and Ron
