Rebecca Liggero
Rebecca Liggero loves meeting new people and traveling – perfect qualities for someone who has won friends and influenced people in the worldwide online gaming community. After graduating from Bates College with a degree in psychology, Rebecca spent four years in Washington, DC, working in relationship management, dreaming all the while about someday making it big in online gaming. After turning down an opportunity to live in New Zealand, she moved back to Boston and signed on as Senior Account Manager for Casino City – the beginning of a dream come true! Rebecca’s work on behalf of Casino City (and later for the GPWA as well) took her to trade shows and conferences everywhere – Amsterdam, Barcelona, Costa Rica, Montreal, London, Las Vegas, Macau and many other ports of call – and along the way she began chronicling her incredible around-the-clock adventures in a wildly entertaining and industry-savvy weekly column that quickly became – and still remains – must reading for everyone who is anyone in online gaming. Following almost three years with the Casino City team, Rebecca spent a few months at Everest Affiliates where she was the Brand Manager of the affiliate program. While working on “the other side,” she realized that she truly missed her weekly column and the affiliate side of the business and decided to return to the Casino City family. One and a half years later, Rebecca resigned from Casino City and joined industry icon Calvin Ayre to serve as the Bodog Global Brand Ambassador and the head on-site reporter for the online gambling industry tablog, CalvinAyre.com. In her new capacity, Rebecca continues to travel the world, and when asked where she is based, her response is usually "on an airplane." Contact Rebecca at rebecca@liggero.net. Be careful, though – she might quote you.

Rebecca's Recommendations - December 8, 2005

8 Dec 2005

By Rebecca Liggero
I have just returned from one of the most beautiful countries I have ever laid eyes on. Costa Rica is simply amazing- please put it on your list of places to visit. Considering I was in Costa Rica attending a poker conference (and partying with Bodog, of course), today's newsletter will be all about poker, poker and more poker. I'm actually embarrassed to admit, I didn't know a whole hell of a lot about the game before this conference, but I certainly picked up some tips after watching Mike Caro (!) play online at the Doyle's Room booth. On a side note, I also learned quite a bit about sportsbooks as I spent just about every second of my free time with the Bodog Sports guys. As I anticipated, hitting the town with this fun crew was nothing short of superb. I will leave it at that. Use your imagination. Also, I was graciously invited to watch some NFL football at the Bodog Headquarters- what a trip that was. And to top it all off, my team won! GO PATS!

Speaking of Bodog, they do have a fantastic poker room as well. Bodog Poker just launched its "Tournament Leader Board", a brand new feature that allows Bodog players to compete against each other and win weekly and/or monthly prizes. The player who obtains that most points in one week will get to play Josh Arieh or David Williams (Team Bodog poker pros) in a heads up sit and go for $1000. Those players who also finish in the top ten will receive tourney credits towards entry into the WPT/WSOP quarter or semifinals or into the $100,000 Sunday tournament at Bodog Poker. At the end of the month, the player who finishes at the top will receive a free weekend at Vegas's Bellagio Hotel and an entry into the $1,000 Saturday night tourney. Wow. Oh, and on a smaller (but important) scale, for the month of December, players can trade in poker points for a cash bonus- 400 poker points will get you $10. If you have any questions about your account or these promos, please get in touch with Bodog's customer service. You won't be disappointed. As my boyfriend told me a few weeks back (yes, I am the one who introduced him to the wonderful world of gambling online), Bodog has "outstanding" customer service.

As mentioned earlier, I had a chance to learn more about another impressive online poker site while I was in Costa Rica. Doyle's Room set up a fancy and fun display at the conference and I even walked away with an autographed picture from the "Godfather of Poker", Doyle Brunson. The most amazing aspect of Doyle's Room is that they sponsor a weekly tournament that includes three pro players such as Doyle Brunson, Mike Caro, Todd Brunson, and other weekly pros/celebrity guests. The best part about it is that playing in this tournament is FREE the first time you play, and you could potentially walk away with $25,000 if you knock out all three pro players, $10,000 if you knock out two, and $250 if you knock out one. Aside from the prize money, anyone can watch the tournament play and "chat" with the pros. These tournaments take place every Thursday night at 9am EST and include a maximum of 999 players. You can check and see what pros are playing in the next tournament by visiting the Doyle's Room website.

Lastly, I would like to mention a poker room represented by a great team that I spent quite a bit of time chatting with at the conference. Nine Poker offers a wide variety of tournaments, a huge sign up bonus of 150% up to $150, and a 25% reload bonus. This reload bonus will be awarded every time you deposit, and there is no restriction on the amount of times you can get it. Nine Poker also features a quick and easy "Refer a Friend" promo- for every single friend that you refer to Nine Poker, you will receive 20% of your friend's initial deposit up to $200. I have also heard a rumor that there will be some special December promotions announced shortly...be sure to keep checking here for details!
