PPA rates members of Congress
WASHINGTON, D.C -- Poker Players Alliance, a Washington, D.C. advocacy group seeking the legalization of online poker, rated members of Congress on their attitudes toward the activity.
The guide was made available through the organization's website as well as the PPA Congressional Rating Guide website.
Nevada's five-person delegation had marks of either A or B with Rep. Shelley Berkley, D-Las Vegas, topping the class with a grade of A+.
"The poker community has made tremendous progress over the past two years in educating members of Congress on the benefits of regulating online poker," said former U.S. Sen. Alfonse D'Amato, chairman of the Poker Players Alliance.
"The grades in our 2010 Congressional Ratings Guide indicate that progress, but also underscore that more needs to be done," D'Amato said.
Some 194 members of Congress scored a D or an F in the rankings. In 2008, 258 members of Congress earned a D or F. This year, 91 members of Congress were rated an A.
Rep. Dean Heller, R-Reno, and Rep. Dina Titus, D-Las Vegas, recorded A grades, while Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Republican Sen. John Ensign had grades of B.
All members of the Nevada delegation, except for Ensign, sent letters in support of the rights of online poker players. Berkley and Titus co-sponsored legislation supported by the Poker Players Alliance while Heller cast a vote favored by organization.
