PokerStars Winter Series smashes guarantee with $65.1 million prize pool

The Winter Series surpassed its $50 million guarantee by more than $15 million to generate a total prize pool of $65,128,437.
The series, which took place from 25 December to 13 January, attracted more than 1.2 million entries across the 242-tournament schedule.
Key highlights include:
-The three Main Events (low, medium, and high tiers) awarded $5.9 million, all beating their respective $1 million, $1.5 million, and $2 million guarantees.
-The low Main Event saw ‘luishen.p’ take the crown for $131.402, after gaining entry from a satellite for just $2.20. The event received 25,887 entries.
-‘Pendall’ took down the medium Main Event for a $248,835 payout, beating a field of 3,864 entries.
-The high Main Event attracted 547 entries to the felt, with ‘wizowizo’ topping the field for $482,795.
-The special $215 buy-in Sunday Million, which had an increased guarantee of $3 million but reached a prize pool of $3,508,600, attracted 17,543 entries. ‘takisxa’ took first place for $375,697.
-Plenty of players made a great return on investment by turning a small satellite into a big win. For example, ‘freiwandeln’ turned $11 into $98,535 after coming first in Event 46 medium. ‘thestar1985’ made $17,793 for a second-place finish in Event 46 low from just $1.45, and ‘skooby10’ took down Event 27 medium turning $27.50 into a $55,164 prize.
