PinnacleSports.com Posts Barbaro's Triple Crown Odds
WILLEMSTAD, Curacao – (PRESS RELEASE) -- After blowing past the field by 6 1/2 lengths in Saturday's 132nd running of the Kentucky Derby, Barbaro is now the only horse with a chance to become the first Triple Crown winner in 28 years. The largest sports and race book on the Internet, PinnacleSports.com today joined in the Triple Crown speculation by posting odds on Barbaro becoming the first horse since Affirmed in 1978 to win racing's highest honor.
Although the oddsmakers at PinnacleSports.com believe that Barbaro is a serious Triple Crown contender, they still list the undefeated horse as a 9/4 underdog to add the Preakness and Belmont to his Kentucky Derby win. With Seattle Slew as the only undefeated Triple Crown winner in racing history, it's more likely that Barbaro will fall short of accomplishing the feat, currently listed at 2/5 odds. Knowing that the Derby winner has captured the second leg of racing's Triple Crown six times in the past nine years, PinnacleSports.com currently lists Barbaro as a 5/6 favorite to win the Preakness Stakes on May 20.
"Trainer Michael Matz has stuck to the game plan of resting Barbaro for the three Triple Crown races and defied his critics by becoming the first Derby winner in fifty years that didn't run within five weeks of the race," said Simon Noble of PinnacleSports.com. "After winning the Run for the Roses by the largest margin of victory in 60 years, Barbaro appears poised for another visit to the winner's circle at Pimlico, which would set up the seventh Triple Crown attempt in 10 years at June's Belmont Stakes."
