PicksPal.com Know Their Football

8 Feb 2006

CALIFORNIA – (PRESS RELEASE) -- PicksPal.com players proved once again they really know their pro football, as the free online sports picks site's Big Game Blowout Contest came to an end with a site-wide predicted Pittsburgh win and the occurrence of several long shot props.

While many sports experts did have Pittsburgh beating Seattle, only PicksPal.com players were sure of the otherwise surprising plays during the big game. For example, 78 percent were sure that someone besides Ben Roethlisberger would throw a pass for the Steelers, and 93 percent knew that a TD pass would go for over 35 yards during the game; both of which were covered in one play: Antwaan Randel El's bomb to Hines Ward. A majority of PicksPal.com players also covered the game's over/under, adding to their streak of accurate predictions stemming from the conference championships.

Other long shot props featured on PicksPal.com that took place during Sunday's big game were Roethlisberger's TD dive, Willie Parker's 75 yard TD run, and Kelly Herndon's 76-yard interception return. And although the odds were not too steep, 78% of PicksPal.com players also accurately predicted that the Rolling Stones would sing "Start Me Up" during their halftime performance.

PicksPal.com gives players free points each week to pick events and props from pro football, pro basketball, college basketball, hockey and other sports. At the end of the week, the players with the most points win prizes such as iPods, portable DVD players, and for special events such as the Big Game Blowout Contest, even big screen HDTVs.

The winner of the Big Game Blowout Contest and a 42-inch plasma flat panel HDTV was "Larry," who uses the famous Stooge as his moniker. "I looked towards Curly and Moe for advice on sports picks, but they just kept trying to poke my eyes out," said Larry, "hopefully the TV will be here before the next Stooge marathon though."

With the March mania surrounding the men's college basketball tournament right around the corner, Larry will be set to watch all the action on high definition as he competes in PicksPal.com's College Basketball Bracket Contest, which will also feature big prizes. The Picking Order (the site's main blog) previewed the action when it stated "Everyone is invited to (Larry's) house for the Final Four."

If they find him there, that is. When asked what he was going to do now that he won the Big Game Blowout Contest, Larry responded "I'm going to Disneyworld!" And because Larry couldn't afford the flight to Orlando, he added "and I'm taking the bus."
