Penn National considering Maryland slots bid
CHARLES TOWN, West Virginia -- As reported by The Journal: "Officials with Penn National Gaming Inc., the parent company of Charles Town Races & Slots, say they are planning to apply for a permit that would enable them to open a gaming facility in Maryland.
"Voters in Maryland approved a referendum last November that permits a limited number of slot machines to be placed there. The measure allows a total of five gaming facilities to be opened in the state at select locations, including Anne Arundel County, Baltimore City and Rocky Gap State Park.
"Officials with Penn National say they have set their sights on obtaining the permit needed to operate slot machines in Cecil County, in northeastern Maryland near the Chesapeake Bay.
"...The deadline to submit the company's application is drawing near. All interested bidders must submit an outline of their plans for a gaming facility, as well as related hotels and other amenities they would like to include, by Monday..."
