Paralyzed Jockey Sues Churchill Downs

KENTUCKY – As reported by the Thoroughbred Times: "Jockey Remi Gunn, who was paralyzed in a spill at Ellis Park last August, has filed a lawsuit against the racetrack and owner Churchill Downs Inc., claiming they did not ensure the safety of her vest and helmet or provide adequate medical treatment.

"Gunn filed a complaint on Thursday in Jefferson Circuit Court in Louisville, seeking unspecified damages in a jury trial against Churchill, Ellis, a helmet maker, safety vest maker, and equipment vendor at Ellis, the Louisville Courier-Journal reports. Gunn claims the safety vest did not meet Kentucky testing standards, and that her helmet was defective…"
