PAGCOR making operators pay the piper

PAGCOR takes legal action against 33 offshore gaming entities for nonpayment.
The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) is saying enough is enough as it took legal action in an effort to recoup the P2.02 billion in regulatory fees due to PAGCOR. As a result of this failure to pay, the operators are in violation of Section 4.C of the Offshore Gaming Regulatory Manual.
According to PAGCOR Chairman and CEO Alejandro Tengco, some of these operators have left the country and despite appeals by the current management for the fees, the operators still have not paid up.
“Because of this situation, we are duty-bound to take legal course of action,” said Tengco in press release. “We are now in the process of gathering pertinent information to file appropriate cases against them.”
PAGCOR billed two of the operators in May 2023, while two others were endorsed to PAGCOR’s Legal Group since February 2023.
During a congressional hearing early this week, Tengco said some offshore gaming operators that were granted licenses during the previous administration closed shop during the pandemic, leaving behind billions of pesos in unpaid dues.
Tengco and the new PAGCOR Board of Directors were sworn into office in August 2022. Tengco replaced outgoing Chair and CEO Andrea Domingo, who served for six years.
“PAGCOR will continue to ensure that all our regulated gaming entities – including offshore gaming operators and service providers – will abide by our regulatory policies, including proper payment of fees and taxes,” said Tengco.
