Official! Channel425 - Now The UK'S No1 Betting Channel
Hills have signed contracts with Sky Channel (Australia) and Brazilian Football Events to broadcast more than 70 hours of live sporting content to the UK punter. All this comes only a week after Hills released the data from a record breaking Grand National day, confirming that they are the UK's top betting company with remote channels, when successfully answered more than 112,000 telephone calls and processed over 300,000 bets including holding over 25,000 concurrent online users.
David Harding, Chief Executive, William Hill commented; "The Grand National proved how advanced our telephone and internet operations are and in order to harness the maximum potential from these channels it is important that we continue to develop our programming for our interactive TV platform on Channel 425. The new content brings our weekly live broadcast content to well over 110 hours a week. Not bad for a station that only launched in October."
Peter Nolan, e-gaming Operations Director said; "We know, from monitoring the peak times of our internet poker and casino operations, that there are many thousands of UK insomniacs, shift workers or early risers who are a potential audience for the specific hours of the Australian racing and we believe it could easily carve a niche market. I for one, would rather get up in the morning and switch on some live racing than watch the normal breakfast TV available in the UK."
One of the best know Australian ex-pats currently in the UK is the BBC commentator Jim McGrath, who commented; "It's a tremendous coup by Hills. I often get up in the early hours to listen (via the Internet) to the top Australian races and being able to actually watch them, means I will look forward to them with even greater interest. Hills have achieved in six months what some channels have been talking about, a 24hour-betting channel, for ten years."
Hills have already won praise for their incredibly popular Racing Live programme, which brings punters the very best in UK greyhound racing five nights a week. In March, the company launched Poker425, the poker aficionado's weekly magazine programme and expect to bring the synergy's between the internet and interactive closer together on poker format later this year.
Now William Hill has secured the rights to broadcast Australian Horse, Harness and Greyhound Racing to the UK seven days a week, plus exclusive rights to the Brazilian Premier League, the league that brought us Pele, Zico, Ronaldo, and many more every Sunday night.
In total, it means Channel 425 has now leapt well past rival channels Racing UK and Attheraces in providing armchair punters with a daily diet of live betting sport.

BACKGROUND TO THE AUSTRALIAN RACING PRODUCT
Australian horseracing is as famed for its competitiveness as the Australian cricket team are for the Ashes. The Melbourne Cup remains the 'race that stops a nation' and indeed no matter where you are in the Southern Hemisphere country, shops will shut, schools will halt lessons and buses pull over to the side of the road, so everyone can tune in and shout home their fancy in one of the most famous races in the world.
In recent years, the European Challenge has got stronger and stronger. Twice, the Irish trainer Dermot Weld has landed the Cup (Vintage Crop in 1993 & Media Puzzle in 2002) and many other top trainers like Mark Johnston, John Dunlop and the powerful Godolphin stable with Frankie Dettori annually pursue it.
William Hill has the rights to televise the International SKY Channels coverage from Australia onto Channel 425. The international feed carries around 100 race meetings per week (almost 1000 betting events) and it is our intention to broadcast horses, dogs and harness racing on a daily basis, thus creating betting opportunities across the Hills Internet and telebetting operations (hours restricted).
Channel 425 will also broadcast SKY Channels magazine style programs that offer useful insights into the racing codes in this jurisdiction.
The minimum 10 hours a day of content will bring live pictures of horseracing, greyhound racing and harness racing Hills have the rights to show the content throughout their betting shop estate should they wish to.
Looking ahead, it means the top Australian races like the Melbourne Cup, Caulfield Cup, Cox Plate and the Golden Slipper will all be live to Australian ex-patriots and UK racing fans on Channel 425.
